Motorcycle helmet question?

Okay the helmet I have is nice and fits perfectly. About a week or so later, I realized I have straps (one has two metal rings, and the other has a button that fastens to the other side.) I just want to know what is the proper way of strappin' a lid on my head because those straps are in my way if they hang there. Thanks!
