I'm a male with thick, wavy and long brown hair. What can I apply to make it better after showering?

I'm a male with long, thick hair that looks great a few days after washing it when natural oils have built up. The problem is that right after I shower, my hair doesn't look as good and it *won't* stay out of my eyes. I normally push my bangs over the back of my head to keep them out of my eyes, but the cleaner my hair is, the more impossible it is. What kind of hair care products or techniques are there to help with this? I'm looking for either a fastening solution (that isn't also an adornment) or something I can put in my hair after showering to make it more cooperative. Thanks...
