Injury on my thumb - what do I do about it? ?

I think you should go get your finger x-rayed in case your thumb is broken just to be on the safe side but it sounds like your finger nail is going to fall off. I've also done work with a lathe before and one friends got knocked in the head when the chuck flew into the ceiling and rebounded into her head. That was funny! But she was okay.
